We need a tag to let people know we are AFK. Save a lot of hassle.

You'd think /sit would do it, but a lot of people don't get the message.

Why is that? I play a smiting monk and I pretty much always play with the henchies. It's not uncommon for me to be changing my stats and inventory and have three or more blind invites. I don't want them - if I did I wouldn't be standing around. Standing doing nothing *should* be a tip off I'm not terribly interested in you after you have spammed "LFG" for the time I've been on - blind inviting isn't going to suddenly make me want to join your group. In fact I would go so far as to say the fact that I didn't run over and try to join your group when you asked for a monk could be *another* tip off.

Especially given that I can't heal worth a crap and could care less if you think that is the proper monks mission.

My standing around for whatever reason isn't remotely affecting your ability to make a group - I'm not even remotely going to be available to you for a group. Nor do I think that a healing monk that thinks all they need to do is stand around and you will fall all over them is exactly the type of person you want in your group.

Again, if "LFG, need monk" isn't working then blind invite most likely isn't going to do you much good either.

I've been tempted to accept a few times to see if they even bothered to ask me what I was or what skills I had. If it were not for the fact that I think that is dishonest and irritating I would.

Yeah, it's annoying being a monk in a mission area. If I'm there only to get the bonus, or to go to a town I haven't unlocked yet, or to get a specific skill cap instead of doing the mission, I have to say "Monk LFG for (whatever). Please whisper before you invite." That way I can just ignore the blind invites and get the groups that know what I'm after.

People will always assume you're there to do the mission, and there are plenty of people who don't care about the supplimentary things. One can't always get a group that's in it solely for the skill cap or solely for the bonus, so at times you have to get a group that says they're willing to do them in addition to their primary needs, so long as you help them 'till the end.

That's reasonable. But what's especially annoying is when the group says they will do the bonus/skill cap and then they don't even bother. So I've just been the victim of a bait 'n switch. This actually happens quite a lot. It makes me want to leave, though I don't since in many cases not everyone in the group is at fault. Now I tell the group up-front that I will leave if they don't meet their promises and at least try the bonus, or the skill cap or whatever they promised they'd help me with.

I manage to get into groups whenever I feel like pugging (which I admit, is very seldom).
I love to play with others, but sometimes their idiocy is too much to take, so I settle for henchies.

I just started my monk, and wow, now I know what kinda shit monks have to deal with.
Warriors would not wait and sprint off to wherever the hell they feel like going.
And I had the champion of all monks in my team once.
We had 3 monks in the team and I had no idea why (for the Borlis Pass mission).
Anyway, Borlis isn't the toughest of missions, so I thought any mismatched group could do it.
So I asked if everyone was healing, and one didn't reply, another said yeah.
So I went smiting, with orison and breeze as backup.
5 minutes into the mission, I realised I could forget about smiting anything except my own head as I had to be the main healer.

One monk was like Alesia only better:
1. She was using a sword.
2. She was using a shield.
3. She decided to tank everything that came along.

No less than 3 times I asked why she was using a sword + shield and didn't get any replies. Then I just told her not to use a sword + shield and still no reply. That monk didn't say a word the whole time, from making the team, to the end of the mission.
To top it all off, I'm a noob monk (and I even told the team this before we left) as its my first time, and I still have to babysit these pugs. Sheesh.

Wow, monks have it hard...not looking forward to the tougher missions when some sort of coordination is actually needed.

Agree! A monk has as much right to stand around a mission town dancing, chatting, afk, or whatever, as any one else. And anyone has a right to do so. Just because you are standing around a mission town doesn't make it any more difficult for others to form a group. Those who are actively looking to join or form a group will either advertise for it or click themselves onto groups that are being advertised.

Monks also have the right to play as part or pure smiters, and perhaps not at all as healers. As long as they make this clear before joining a party. I am playing a monk now with one of my characters and just because I am a monk doesn't make me obligated to join a group as healer. People have to get wise and realize that henchies are there to fill in the gaps of a party. And henchies make perfectly adequate healers. For any mission. If you don't think this is true, then you just are using the wrong playing tactics.

Actually this is an Idea i've been thinking of putting forward for a long time.

especially for in-game, if you KNEW someone was afk, via some tag and in the team box.. then you would know not to go ahead just yet.

Also,

if that person IS afk during game, then they receive no drops and no xp and dont take a share of the gold! .. its only fair.

this 'AFK' tag/status should be forced upon the player after.. 5 minutes?

This would also help those moaning crying babies who complain about this...

and it still makes me mad to think that such pathetic people even exist.

I actually quite like the people who whine, It's rather funny to comeback after 8 hours of sleeping to find a huge log of whine, flame, and insults thrown at me by these idiots.

Sometimes I like to watch a movie, go into town or something, it's just so much easier to leave everything running for when I get back...

My vote: Never log off, idle in Port Sledge or Fishermans Haven (such cool places ;D)

Did the final 2 missions with 5 monks ;p Everyone cussed at me for stealing them all.

Play the game how you want, if you keep getting requests ignore them, just stand there and laugh.
